First picture of woman killed in Russell Square stabbing – who was due to fly home to the US the day after the attack

Darlene Horton had spent the summer in London with her husband, a psychology professor

THIS is the first picture of the American woman killed in the Russell Square stabbing last night.

Darlene Horton, who was married to Florida State University psychology professor Richard Wagner, died at the scene after being knifed in the back.

Her husband was leading a summer study programme in London.

The couple had already started to back their belongings to head home.

They were due to fly back to Florida the day after the attacks.

In a statement, Florida State University President John Thrasher said: “There are no words to express our heartache over this terrible tragedy.

“We are shocked that such senseless violence has touched our own FSU family, and we will do all we can to assist Professor Wagner and his loved ones, as well as his friends and colleagues in the Psychology department, as they mourn.”

Prior to her death, witnesses said that her final words were, “He’s still here, he’s still here”, referring to the attacker.

Five other people were injured in the attack.

Ms Horton, 64, and her husband lived in Tallahassee, Florida.

The suspect has been named as Zakaria Bulhan.

The 19-year-old Norwegian national, of Somali origin was Tasered by police and taken into custody on suspicion of murder.

He is said to be suffering possible 'mental health issues'.
