Ukraine’s beautiful bobbies turn out in force for National Police Day… Complete with patriotic earrings

It is the first official celebration for the police since the 2014 revolution

UKRAINIAN police officers took to the streets of Kiev today to celebrate Ukraine’s National Police Day.

And some officers took patriotism to the next level by sporting EARRINGS with the Ukrainian flag.

Thursday’s celebration marked the first official celebration since the creation of the National Police of Ukraine in 2015 by President Petro Poroshenko following the 2014 revolution.

But it is not by chance that so many officers are young and attractive.

Last year, in a drive to get locals to trust the police, the president hired 2,000 new young and attractive recruits.

Before the revolution only 3% of Ukrainians trusted the police, who had a reputation for being corrupt and violent.

The new recruits were even told to go out and take SELFIES with the public in a bid to boost confidence in the force.

Since the revolution, which ousted Viktor Yanukovich in 2014, Ukraine has been desperately trying to restore trust in its police force.

Large numbers of police had been involved on the violent crackdown on protesters in Independence Square.

The says that the new ‘reformed service’ is just a PR exercise, but whatever the motivation, it’s definitely making the Ukrainian Police a lot more popular.

The celebration day was established back in December by Ukrainian President Poroshenko, and several official ceremonies took place in St Sophia Square in the centre of Kiev.
