Of their heads
CASH-STRAPPED Brits fleeced.
Comparison websites hiding deals.
Energy fatcats raking in cash.
Sounds a good idea?
It does if you’re energy regulator Ofgem.
They tamely refused to force providers to automatically put people on cheapest tariffs, and opened the door to everyone receiving mountains more junk mail.
Ofgem seem unaware that most people pay their bills and get on with life.
They don’t have time to search hundreds of tariffs and switch providers every few months.
This is a capitulation by a weak regulator incapable of standing up for us.
Meanwhile, wealthy energy companies will keep getting richer at our expense.
Border farce
ONE million illegal migrants are living in Britain and most will never be deported.
So says the former boss of the UK Border Agency.
It’s a clear illustration of the Government’s dire need to get a grip on Britain’s creaking immigration system.
We look forward to seeing the plan to reduce numbers entering legally post-Brexit.
But there must also be a concerted effort to stop illegal immigrants forging documents and overstaying visas to settle in the UK.
Authorities have power to seize the earnings of illegal workers and close businesses hiring them, but lack the political direction telling them to do so.
Theresa May – Home Secretary when many of the million entered Britain – must now show she’s got the guts to tackle this crisis as a matter of urgency.
Black knight
IT’S been FIFTY days since bloated billionaire Sir Philip Green told MPs he’d “sort” the BHS pension deficit.
Yet 20,000 workers, jobless as a result of his dealings, remain in the lurch.
Instead of threatening to walk away from negotiations unless Labour MP Frank Field is nicer to him, thin-skinned Sir Philip needs to get on with using his massive wealth to fill the BHS pensions black hole.
If he refuses, MPs should strip Green of his precious knighthood.
Luck changes
WHO can begrudge Sonia Davies her £61 million lottery win?
A week ago the mum from South Wales was having life-saving cancer surgery.
Now she and her family are multi-millionaires.
A timely reminder that every cloud can have a silver lining.
