GETTING YOUR LAG OVER

Prison nurse avoids jail for romps with axe-burglar because she needs to care for her children

Mum-of-two even went to see him in a different nick after he was moved

A SENIOR prison nurse narrowly avoided getting banged up after having steamy romps behind bars - with a violent lag.

Single mum Hester Wilson, 43, was so besotted with convict axe-burglar Nichail Sixto that she bought a secret mobile phone so he could text her from his cell.

Horny Wilson even kept up visits to Sixto when he was transferred to a different prison, where he is serving 11 years for a violent burglary.

But a judge said he was sparing the single mum a jail sentence because her son, aged seven, and 21-year-old pregnant daughter would be left to fend for themselves if she was locked up.

The mum-of-two was sentenced to 14 months imprisonment suspended for two years when she appeared before Maidstone Crown Court on Monday - which heard she romped with the crook on at least two occasions.

Judge David Griffith-Jones QC said: "You have expressed remorse, which I am prepared to accept is genuine, although it seems you have struggled to appreciate the true implications of your behaviour.

"By reason of this conviction your world has been turned upside down.

"You have already sustained punishment by losing your employment and career as a nurse, neither of which can you have any complaint about."

Wilson admitted misconduct in public offence after she became close to Sixto, then 28, last year when she worked as a nurse in Maidstone Prison.

The nurse, Kennington in Ashford, Kent bought a cheap, secret phone and gave her beau the number because she knew he had a mobile in his cell - and refused to shop him to prison bosses.

She went off sick for a period but when she returned found he had been transferred to a prison in Oxfordshire.

She continued to visit her caged lover before being suspended.

The mum-of-two was not arrested until February this year.

Prosecutor Christopher May said: "During the course of meetings they became closer and the relationship became physical.

"It seems on two occasions there was direct sexual contact between them within the prison.

"She agreed, she knew the relationship was inappropriate and wrong but didn't seem to appreciate the potential security breach.

"She denied it was to do with an attempt by him to stay in the country or manipulate or groom her. She expressed remorse for what she had done."

But the single mum was spared jail by Judge Griffith-Jones QC who said she was a "lucky woman" because he did not want to impose "considerable punishment" on her children.

Mum-of-two was given a suspended sentence, ordered to do 150 hours of unpaid work and will also be subject to a four-month curfew.

He added: "I recognise that if immediately incarcerated today while you could have no complaint, it would impose considerable punishment on your children.

"It is primarily for the consideration of your children that I am prepared to take what may be regarded in other circumstances as a lenient course and give you another chance."

Prosecutor Christopher May told the court the relationship sparked into life last year, when Sixto became her patient.

He said: "During the course of meetings they became closer and the relationship became physical.

"It seems on two occasions there was direct sexual contact between them within the prison."

He added they performed a sex act on each other.

Defending, Samantha Bonner claimed her client was naive and had the relationship following the death of a previous partner.

She said: "It occurred at a time when she was not herself. She felt very vulnerable. She was shown affection by this prisoner."

Sentencing the nurse, who the court heard was "excellent" the judge said: "You have escaped immediate custody by the skin of your teeth. You are a lucky woman."
