Girl aged just 11 gives birth and is believed to be Britain’s youngest ever mum
A GIRL of 11 has had a baby — and is now believed to be Britain’s
youngest ever mum.
She became pregnant aged ten before giving birth earlier this month.
Mum and tot, delivered after more than 30 weeks, are both healthy.
Her family had no idea. Social services and council chiefs are investigating.
A source who knows the family said: “It has come as a big shock.
"She’s now being surrounded by expert help. The main thing is that she and the baby are OK.
“There are questions around why people did not know. That is very worrying.”
Previous youngest mum Tressa Middleton was 12 when she gave birth in 2006.
Sun doctor Carol Cooper said: “This is the youngest mother I’ve heard of.
"The average age at which a girl begins puberty is 11, though it can be anytime between 8 and 14, or younger. Weight affects many hormones.
"Because children are heavier, puberty is happening earlier these days.”
She added: “There’s a higher risk of a low-birthweight baby, pre-eclampsia, premature labour and many infections.
“Around one in every 2,500 births happens to someone who doesn’t know she’s pregnant (or has hidden it).”
In 2014, a baby was born to a mum, 12, and dad, 13 — the lowest combined age of Brit parents.
In 2017, it was reported a girl, 11, was set to give birth but no further details emerged.
