Couple finally tie the knot after being engaged for 48 years

A COUPLE have married after being engaged for almost 50 years.

Dave Scott, 78, was 26 when he met Pamela, now 72, at their local in 1969.

They got engaged four years later but never tied the knot.

They finally decided on a trip to the register office when son Dean, 32, set an October date for his wedding to Tayla, 29.

Ex-builder Dave, of Dagenham, East London, said: “We beat him to it.

“He was surprised we’d decided to marry after all these years.

“I’d planned an engagement party in 1973, which was a fantastic night.

"We had a band and lots of dancing. Neither of us remember getting home.

“Then we struggled. I was out of work on and off, my parents got ill, and lo and behold in 1989 we found out Pam was pregnant with Dean.

“We were shocked because she was 40 and I was 46. The wedding got put on the backburner.”
