Donald Trump made a baby cry and got stuck in a lift during a disastrous time on the campaign trail
Republican presidential candidate was hoping his trip to Colorado would go much better than it did
DONALD Trump messed up the traditional politician kissing baby photocall and got stuck in a lift during a bad few days on the presidential campaign trail.
With his adoring fans behind him at a rally in Colorado the brash billionaire must have thought he had a definite win – but the two babies he was holding weren’t having any of it.
One of them looked bewildered to say the least and the other showed how upset he was after Donald Trump kissed him by crying – and not stopping despite Trump’s best efforts.
But he was lucky to have even made it to the event at the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs as he had been stuck in a lift just moments before he was due to speak.
Firefighters had to be called when the lift he was in at a nearby hotel got stuck between the first and second floors.
Crews opened the top hatch and lowered a ladder into the lift.
Everyone inside, including Trump had to climb out.
Co-owner of the Mining Exchange hotel, Perry R Sanders Jr, said Trump’s security team was given control of the hotel’s lifts during the event.
He said: “The party were model guests but security insisted on having manual control of the elevators.
Sanders added that the lift maintenance company found it had become stuck because someone had turned the manual key while the lift was in motion.
He told 11 News: “I will note I don't think that Mr Trump interestingly enough did anything out of the ordinary other than potentially lash out at the fire department which seemed a little peculiar but he did not come out of that in any sort of bad spirits as best I can tell.
“It was quite interesting the whole deal happened but I think it was a bit of a test. If anybody that's in the high position ends up in a situation and has to come out of it and deal with complicated things I think it's some sort of tribute to them that they can do that.”
During Trump's event he lashed out at the fire marshal who had said only 1,500 could go in the main auditorium and 1,000 were sent to an overflow room.
Trump said it was “unfair” some of his supporters were barred entry and said fire marshal Brett Lacey was “probably a Democrat” before comparing the situation to federal government before concluding “That’s why we’re going to hell”.
In response fire marshal Lacey said the organisers had given out too many tickets and he was just concerned about public safety.
