Woman, 90, found dead in pond was killed by alligator after disappearing from nursing home

A 90-YEAR-OLD woman who disappeared from her nursing home is believed to have been killed by an alligator.

Pensioner Bonnie Walker was found dead in a pond after what is reportedly the first fatal attack by an alligator in the state of South Carolina.

, detectives working on the case say Ms Walker slipped and fell into the body of water, where she was attacked by the beast.

Robert McCullough, of the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, said of the death: "It’s the first one as far as we’ve been keeping records."

Ms Walker’s remains were discovered in the pond behind Brookdale Senior Living Centre, where she lived.

She went missing from the facility on Wednesday, and was tragically found dead several hours later.

An autopsy recorded the cause of death as multiple sharp and blunt force trauma injuries.

Experts do not believe the alligator attacked Ms Walker unprovoked, instead hypothesising the 90-year-old fell in, attracting the beast to her.

The alligator has been removed from the pond following the discovery of Ms Walker’s body, but her disappearance from the home remains a mystery.

Brookdale Senior Living Centre is yet to comment on the incident.
