The tot was just 18-months-old

Police confirmed her name as Ella-Grace Rimington and said she was known as “Gracie”.

Investigations into the incident are “ongoing”, but cops confirmed Ella-Grace’s death is not being treated as suspicious.

Emergency services raced out just after 6pm, and the 18-month-old girl was rushed to hospital but could not be saved.

It’s understood the family were at the tot’s grandparents house celebrating her mum, Nicola Strathearn’s, birthday when tragedy struck.

Frantic relatives are said to have pulled her from the water and desperately tried to give her CPR before ambulance crews arrived.

Neighbours told how they heard relatives screaming after Ella-Grace Rimington was discovered unresponsive.

Shocked locals told of their heartbreak at the incident, which is believed to have taken place during a family party at her grandparents’ home.

One said: “I could tell by the screaming there was something seriously wrong.

“Minutes later I heard sirens, and then loads of police turned up along with an ambulance.

“They all went running round the back of the house. Cops were standing at the back door and looking into the house.”

Another added: “It was horrible, I can still hear it in my head.” A fellow resident said: “This is tragic, absolutely horrific.”

Forensic teams today carried out searches around the property.

But cops said Thursday’s death wasn’t being treated as suspicious.

Detective Inspector Craig Faulds said tonight: “This is a heartbreaking incident in which a young girl has died.

“The family has asked that they be given privacy and I would like to ask the public to please respect the family’s wishes as they deal with their unimaginable loss.”
