Moment former Mr Universe contestant who claimed £46k benefits for a bad back was caught working out in the gym
The dodgy bodybuilder has been jailed for 12 months
A BOYDBUILDER who claimed almost £50,000 in disability benefits was snared – after he was caught on camera working out in a GYM.
Former Mr Universe contestant Malcolm Sherratt pocketed £46,000 after telling authorities he needed a wheelchair and help dressing.
The 64-year-old made the fraudulent claims over eight years, but was exposed after the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) filmed him working up a sweat in a gym.
Sherratt, from Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, had previously told benefit bosses he needed help dressing, going to the toilet and cooking, as well as using a wheelchair and sticks.
But the fraudster was spotted working out twice a day and lifting heavy weights.
Sherratt, who began making claims after competing in amateur bodybuilder competition Mr Universe in 2007, has been jailed for 12 months.
He previously admitted two counts of false representation and three counts of making a dishonest representation.
He was sentenced at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court last Friday.
