Ted Cruz mocks Kamala Harris ‘running away’ from Mexico border crisis with Monty Python reference
TED Cruz invoked Monty Python to mock Kamala Harris' response to the Mexico border crisis, suggesting the VP is "running away."
The Texas senator made the jab while sharing an article about team trying to distance her from the situation unfolding at the border.
"On the border crisis, Kamala invokes an old leadership style," tweeted, along with a meme from Monty Python that shows knights dropping shields and swords and proclaiming, "run away!"
Cruz was met with a bit of backlash after sharing the jab, though, as Twitter users were quick to point out that he "ran away" to Cancun after a massive storm earlier this year.
The Cruz linked to in the tweet was about Harris' team making it clear that she does not manage the southern border.
When announced that Harris would take charge of addressing immigration from Central America, the VP and her team began focusing on conditions that push migrants to the US border, according to the article.
White House officials said that Harris and her aides have made in clear internally that the focus is not managing the actual border, according to the outlet.
Biden announced that Harris would be tasked with the job on March 24, saying that she is "the most qualified person to do it, to lead our efforts with Mexico and the Northern Triangle, and the countries that can help, need help in stemming movement of so many folks, stemming the migration to our southern border."
The Northern Triangle includes Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador. Harris is set to travel to Mexico and Guatemala next week in an effort to address the root causes of migration with the countries.
Still, since her appointment was announced, Harris has faced much criticism from prominent Republicans for her handling of the crisis.
She was slammed after telling reporters in April that she had no plans to visit the US-Mexico border, and that Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas was handling border issues.
She reiterated at the time that her work to address migration will focus on root causes.
"The work we have to do is going to require a commitment that is continuous, that we institutionalize with our partners," Harris told reporters.
"It will take some time to see the benefits of that work, but it will be worth it," she later added.
The Biden administration is currently dealing with a massive influx of migrants attempted to enter the US at the southern border, and many are unaccompanied minors.
