The pregnant Polish woman, 45, who was hacked to death with a machete by Syrian refugee ‘who fell in love with her’ at a kebab shop
Mother-of-four Jolanta K had only moved to Germany in search of work a year ago
THIS is the pregnant mother-of-four who was stabbed to death by a Syrian refugee in a frenzied machete attack.
Named only as Pole Jolanta K, the 45-year-old was stabbed to death in the German town of Reutlingen before a hero BMW driver ran over the 21-year-old attacker.
Two others were wounded in the incident outside a doner kebab stand on Sunday.
The mum had left her Polish hometown one year ago after a divorice, leaving her children aged eight, 19, 22 and 23 in Poland.
They have arrived in the German town to identify their mother.
Rafal Sobczak, a spokesman of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said: “We are in touch with the family of the murdered woman. As the Foreign Ministry, we offer them all the possible help that we can.”
The attacker, named only as Muhamed, is believed to have fallen for Jolanta when the two worked together at a Turkish fast food restaurant.
Jolanta was said to have rejected the Syrian’s advances as fellow colleagues described his behaviour as “weird”.
The attack happened in downtown Reutlingen by a bus station in Listplatz Square near Stuttgart, in the south-west of the country.
The asylum-seeker was only stopped from carrying on his bloody rampage when a hero ran him over with his BMW car.
Reutlingen police have confirmed they arrested a 21-year-old man after receiving a number of distress calls shortly after 4.30pm local time, when the suspect randomly targeted passers-by.
Officials say the suspect appeared to have acted alone.
According to a released by the local police department, the suspect was known to the police prior to the attack.
Police spokesman Bjoern Reusch said the suspect had been having an argument with the mum-to-be, who worked in the kebab shop, before the attack.
The asylum-seeking Syrian man had been involved in previous incidents causing injuries to other people, police said.
Mr Reusch was unable to confirm when the bearded man arrived in Germany.
"There is no danger to anyone else at this time," he said.
According to German newspaper , the attack caused a number of witnesses to flee the area in a panic.
One local eyewitness told the paper: "The perpetrator was completely out of his mind. He ran with his machete even behind a patrol car."
“A BMW driver then accelerated and ran over him. He then lay prostrate on the ground and did not move.”
Gruesome pictures from the scene showed the machete-wielding man lying in the ground with blood covering his face.
Blood could be seen on the street near where the gruesome attack took place
Armed officials were seen pinning him to the ground, before binding his hands behind his back.
The incident comes just days after nine people were killed by gunman Ali Sonboly in Munich, and a little over a week after a 17-year-old armed with an axe and a knife attacked commuters on a train in Bavaria.
