Cops release e-fits of suspects who tried to abduct RAF officer at knifepoint outside Norfolk airbase
The pair attempted to bundle the unnamed man into a car after dry run three days earlier
THESE are the faces of the two men who are being hunted by police after the attempted abduction of an RAF officer.
The unnamed serviceman was out jogging when he was set upon by two men armed with a knife at RAF Marham, near Kings Lynn, Norfolk
He is believed to have fought off the men and escaped without injury after two men tried to bundle them into their vehicle at about 3pm on July 20.
He headbutted his attacker as he fought them off, and is thought to have left him with a black eye.
They fled and were on the run last night as the base went into lockdown.
Norfolk Police have said that the attackers could be part of a “larger team”.
They are also believed to have been seen on a dry run three days earlier.
Det Supt Paul Durham said: “The victim managed to fight off his attacker and headbutted him, we believe around the eye-socket, so it is possible he suffered swelling and bruising in this area.
“He was then punched which caused him to fall to the ground.”
The two suspects tried to bundle the unnamed airman into the back of a people carrier while holding a military style knife outside married quarters at RAF Marham in Norfolk last Wednesday.
Since then a villager has claimed he witnessed two men of Middle Eastern appearance “acting suspiciously” before speeding away in a green Ford Galaxy on July 17.
This weekend police continue to carry out patrols at the base and to receive support from the Metropolitan Police Counter Terrorism Command.
Officers say the crime is being investigated as a potential abduction.
Terrorism is being considered a potential motive, but other enquiries are also being perused.
Det Supt Durham added: “Another area of interest is any dash-cam footage motorists travelling in Marham or King’s Lynn area may have which they think could be useful to us.
“Many people now use these devices and they may contain something that the driver or rider isn’t aware of so I would urge people to review their footage from the week leading up to the incident and contact us if they feel it could assist the enquiry.”
The first suspect is described as Middle Eastern in appearance, between 20 and 30 years old, approximately 6ft (1.8m) tall, with a well-groomed beard.
The second man, who was also Middle Eastern, is slightly younger, about 5ft 10in (1.78m) and was clean-shaven with short, dark hair.
Police are also still looking for a dark-coloured people carrier used in the attack.
Det Supt Durham added: “Tracing the vehicle remains a priority and one point I would like to re-emphasise is that we do believe it may have contained more than the two suspects seen by the victim.
“This is important because I do not want to deter any potential witnesses from coming forward; it is the vehicle we are interested in, regardless of the number of people seen inside.”
