Toppled statue of slave trader Edward Colston to go back on display

THE toppled statue of slave trader Edward Colston is to be put back on public display.

It has been in storage since it was dumped in a river by Black Lives Matter protesters in Bristol in June last year.

Now, it is to be exhibited, alongside placards used during the protest, at the city’s M Shed museum from June 4.

Residents are also being asked by the We Are Bristol History Commission what should happen to the statue next.

Bristol mayor Marvin Rees said: “The exhibition aims to start a conversation about our history.”

Colston, a 17th century merchant, is reviled for his links to slavery but has remained a prominent figure in the city.
