McDonald’s trials a ‘walk-thru’ for weekend party animals who are too drunk to drive
An outlet in Llandudno, North Wales, has opened a lane for pedestrians to serve hungry diners straight out of nightclubs
FAST food giants McDonald’s is trialling a “walk-thru” - for weekend revellers who have drunk too much to drive.
An outlet in Llandudno, North Wales, has opened a lane for pedestrians to serve hungry diners leaving a nearby nightclub in the early hours.
The restaurant rolled out the trial last weekend, sparking a frenzy with sozzled customers with late night munchies.
The scheme’s instant popularity led bosses to make it a permanent feature and it will return this weekend.
Between the hours of 2.30 and 4am, customers will be able to walk through a separate lane and order meals.
A McDonald’s spokeswoman said: “The ‘walk-thru’ was a local initiative by the business manager of the restaurant to invite local residents to come and enjoy a meal at the restaurant after their night out at the newly reopened nightclub Broadway.

“As the restaurant is in the process of securing a 24 hour license, customers can only use the drive-thru to order food at night, so the ‘walk-thru’ is just a play on how customers can come and enjoy a nice meal, later in the evening.”
Last Saturday, staff at the restaurant took to Facebook to share news of the trial.
A post on the McDonald’s Llandudno page read: “Our ‘Drive Thru’ is now open for as a ‘Walk Thru’ between 2.30-4am!! So when you need a little pick me up at the end of Broadway you know where to come!!
“Tag and share away between friends!!”
It proved a success with the night going “extremely well” according to staff.
Takeaway lovers have long campaigned for McDonald’s to offer walk-thru lanes – with dozens of pages and groups created on Facebook.
The company even includes their response to the question in their FAQs online, claiming local authority licensing and customer safety are the two main reasons for not allowing them.
