Schoolboy, 14, dies in suspected hit-and-run after horror collision with car

Jack Archer was cycling down a quiet country lane when he was killed late last night

A YOUNG schoolboy has been killed in a suspected hit-and-run near Nottingham after he was involved in a collision with a car on a quiet lane.

The victim of the tragedy, which occurred at 10.15pm last night, has been named locally as Jack Archer who is a student at Toot Hill School in Bingham.

Jack was cycling along Chapel Lane, Bingham, when the collision occurred. He died at the scene.

A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

Tributes to Jack have been posted on social media after news of the incident emerged.

One Facebook user commented on a photo of Jack saying “rest in peace my best mate.”

James Tomlinson wrote to a Facebook group, Nottingham Forest Supporters Group, saying “Sad news Jack archer only 14, Young Nottingham lad.”

Mr Tomlinson also mentioned in the same post that both local football teams, Notts County and Nottingham Forest, have agreed to a minute's applause for Jack.

Chapel Lane is still closed from the roundabout at the junction with the A46 / A6097, to Carnarvon Place.

Officers are specifically interested in talking to the occupants of a second car which is thought to have passed the cyclist immediately before the collision took place.

Nottinghamshire Police are appealing for witnesses as part of their investigation and have asked any with information to call 101 quoting incident number 983 of 25 July 2016.
