The petite 37-year-old's family released shocking pictures of her injuries on social media to shame Crozier.

They were angered after some people had claimed the 33-year-old was a "nice guy" and had been unfairly convicted of the assault.

Crozier admitted seizing Ashley by the hair, pushing her to the ground, punching her head and grabbing her by the neck at their home in Wishaw, Lanarkshire. He only stopped beating the mum when she picked up their baby daughter.

He has now been ordered to serve 13 months behind bars by Sheriff Thomas Millar.

Posting the photos online, a family member of Ashley said: "Their baby was 3 weeks old in the pram beside Ashley when he attacked her.

"The police have a tape recording of part of the assault.

"The great guy then done a runner and hid in Glasgow while everyone searched for him thinking he was going to harm himself.

Hamilton Sheriff Court heard that Crozier, who had been in a relationship with Ashley for 13 months, left for work at 9am on July 17 last year but did not return home until about 2:30am the next day.

When Ashley, who had been very worried, asked Crozier where he had been, he flew off the handle and started attacking her.

Fiscal depute Callum Forsyth told the court that Ashley, fearing for her life, bit Crozier and ran from the bedroom into the living room, where she picked up the baby in a desperate bid to stop the beating.

She called police and Crozier left, saying he wouldn’t be coming back and that he would kill himself.

He was arrested a few days later at a relative’s home in Glasgow.

Defence lawyer Diarmid Bruce told the court that Crozier had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, but had not taken his medication for two years as he had been in “a good place” in his relationship.

After the attack, Ashley was taken to Wishaw General Hospital. She suffered two black eyes and extensive bruising to her head and neck. One of her eye sockets was damaged.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “The incident was an unprovoked violent attack on Ashley, who had recently given birth to the couple’s child.

“She was left with significant injuries. Ashley’s bravery in contacting police immediately led to Alan Crozier being swiftly arrested and subsequently convicted for serious assault.”
