A DRIVER was killed and 17 children injured in a horrifying head-on bus crash today.
The kids were on their way to class when their bus was involved in a serious crash with a car this morning on an A-road near Llandissilio, Pembrokeshire.
Two pupils were rushed to hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the car involved died at the scene.
Cops have shut the road and traffic is being diverted.
The youngsters were travelling to secondary school Ysgol y Preseli when the crash happened.
Pembrokeshire Council and the school said 17 children had been injured but not seriously, and parents had been contacted.
And this afternoon, cops revealed that despite the efforts of emergency services, the driver of the car had died.
It's understood the bus was "packed" with students at the time of the collision.
The air ambulance landed nearby after the collision. Four land ambulances and a rapid response car were also called to the scene.
Parents rushed to the scene to collect their children, while reports that many of the youngsters not yet collected were taken to nearby Llandissilio Holiday Park.
A police spokesperson said: "Dyfed-Powys Police is at the scene of a serious collision on the A478 near Llandissilio in Pembrokeshire.
"The incident was reported to police at 8.35am, and the ambulance and fire services are also in attendance.
"The collision involved a motorcar and a bus carrying school children.
"A number of children received minor injuries with two taken to hospital by ambulance with what are described as minor injuries.
"Sadly, the driver of the motorcar died at the scene."

Officials at Pembrokeshire Council said: "None of the injuries to these young people are understood to be serious.
"Parents and guardians of the young people travelling on the bus have been contacted to collect their children."
