Man attacked as he tries to help rowing couple outside pub

Victim is currently in hospital following serious head injuries

A GOOD Samaritan was in hospital with serious head injuries yesterday after he tried to calm down a rowing couple.

The 25-year-old was attacked after he and his girlfriend saw the pair arguing and tried to help.

He was knocked to the floor and emergency services were called.

Thames Valley Police said the attack happened outside the Fleur de Lys pub in East Hagbourne, Oxon, at 11.30pm on ­Saturday.

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said "a man was assaulted and suffered serious head injuries.

"It is believed that the male and his girlfriend intervened in a domestic incident and as a result he has suffered head injuries."

A man, 23, from Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, was arrested on suspicion of GBH and held in custody awaiting interview.
