Angela Merkel’s open door immigration policy to be scorned by critics in wake of recent attacks
GERMAN Chancellor Angela Merkel will face heavy criticism of her open door immigration policy after another vicious migrant stabbing in which a pregnant woman was hacked to death.
The attacker, a Syrian refugee, launched a machete attack on the woman outside a kebab shop in the town of Reutlingen near Stuttgart.
Two others were also injured before the 21-year-old knifeman was scooped by cops shortly after 4.30pm local time.
He was only stopped after a passer-by ran him over with his car, according to eyewitness reports.
Police said the man was known to the authorities after being involved in other "incidents".
It is unclear exactly how long the unnamed attacker, who is seeking asylum, has been in Germany.
However, it is thought he is among the one million migrants that have entered the country in 2015 alone as part of Germany's panned refugee policy.
Merkel announced that Germany was opening its doors to any refugee that could reach the country's borders, putting strain on its neighbours as her pledge led to a wave in migration across southern Europe.

Meanwhile, the influx of migrants has led to public tensions and a resurgence in far-right activism.

Frank Decker, political scientist at Bonn University, said: "In the minds of many people, his arrival [to Germany] is directly linked to Merkel and her liberal refugee policies", reports.
Such feelings among the public are thought to be behind the rise of the anti-immigration party AfD (Alternative for Germany).
In March's local elections, the party received double-digit vote percentages in three states.
