Promising footballer, 16, and boy, 13, arrested after girl knocked under train in shocking attack
A PROMISING footballer and two pals have been quizzed by police after a girl was knocked under a train in a shocking attack.
The three — two aged 16 and one aged 13 — were arrested when officers swooped on three different properties in Dublin yesterday morning.
They’re suspected of being involved in the terrifying incident last month in which a 17-year-old girl fell between a train and a station platform.
During the attack — which was — the girl fell when she moved to avoid one of the teens as he lunged towards her.
She was helped up by other passengers at Howth Junction Dart station.
The three boys were later released without charge.
A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions. All three are being quizzed on suspicion of violent disorder.
‘BLATANT INTIMIDATION’
Bikes, clothing and mobile phones were also seized in yesterday’s operation.
We can also reveal the trio are suspects for other incidents of public order in the Howth area over Easter.
A source said: “The young suspects were questioned about a very serious incident in which a teenage girl could have been killed. The incident was blatant intimidation of people going about their daily business.”
During the incident at 1pm on April 1, CCTV footage shows a group of up to ten teenage boys, some with bicycles, moving along the platform at Howth Junction.
A group of three girls run by them as they try to catch the Dart and one of the boys is seen swinging his leg at one of them. In another shocking incident, a teenage thug spat at one of the girls.
‘SHE COULD’VE BEEN KILLED’
But as the girl attempted to avoid the thug, she slipped and fell onto the track. Although she, her dad told the Irish Sun she “could’ve been killed”.
He said: “She’s OK now, she is still a bit upset about it.
“I heard there were arrests, alright. I don’t know what is going to come of it.
“All we can do is wait and see what happens.”
Asked how his daughter was doing following the yob ordeal, her dad revealed the brave teenager was bouncing back.
He declared: “She is fine considering.”
The investigation into the incident is being run by detectives at Raheny Garda Station. A number of the young women targeted on April 1 have also been interviewed by gardai.
