PRESIDENT Biden said Israel has a “right to defend itself” from Palestinians as airstrikes have killed at least 70 people in Gaza.
The Democrat expects the violence between Israeli forces and the militant group to end “sooner rather than later” as fears of an all-out war breaking out in the region continue to escalate.

The president expressed hope for peace but warned that Israel has a right to protect its people.
Biden said: “Israel has a right to defend itself when you have thousands of rockets flying into your territory.
New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez called Biden out for not taking Israel to task for its own alleged past human rights wrongdoings.
She : “Blanket statements like these [with] little context or acknowledgment of what precipitated this cycle of violence – namely, the expulsions of Palestinians and attacks on Al Aqsa – dehumanize Palestinians & imply the US will look the other way at human rights violations. It’s wrong.”
Former President Donald Trump also took Biden to task for not supporting Israel enough.

Hamas showed no signs of backing down as the militant group fired hundreds of rockets at the heavily populated cities of Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.

Experts fear that Hamas has stockpiled enough rockets to strike Israel for the next two months.
Around 1,500 rockets have been fired from Gaza into Israeli cities since hostilities escalated between Hamas and Israel earlier in the week, Israel’s army said.
The Israeli Defence Force had said that 1,000 rockets had been launched from Gaza since Monday evening, but by early Thursday the number had risen by roughly 500.
