It comes after the budget home store announced 50 branches would close earlier this month as a result of poor sales.

The company's devastating demise comes after business tycoon Sir Phillip Green controversially sold the company for £1 last year.

Calls have been made for the multi-millionaire to lose his knighthood over the ongoing saga - which has seen thousands of hard-working Brits in the lurch.

While the multi-millionaire has offered jobs in his other high street chains to around 1,000 workers -around 10,000 remain uncertain over their fate.

Green sold the company to investors led by three-times bankrupt playboy Dominic Chappell in March last year.
