Beast of Exmoor spotted stalking the countryside in one of the most convincing big cat sightings to date
THE Beast of Exmoor has been spotted stalking the countryside in one of the most convincing big cat sightings to date.
The black cat was filmed by Lisa and Nathan Deere, who said it was bigger than a domestic animal.
They were 500 yards from , thought to be a puma, as it ran across a field.
Lisa, 32, said: “It’s the size of an alsatian. It looks like it’s got a longer tail than a normal cat. It was definitely big.
“We were in the middle of the field and it was quite a distance away. If you put a house cat there, the grass will probably cover it.
“It might be a puma. It’s one of those things — until you see it, you don’t believe it.”
A neighbour spotted it days before in the same field near Yeovil, Somerset, but Lisa was unconvinced until she saw it, too. She and fiancé Nathan, 30, filmed the cat for a few minutes in what is some of the clearest footage yet.
It showed the creature stalking the field, stopping to listen before dashing into the distance. Many online were convinced of its size as only its feet were covered in 10in of grass.
Lisa added: “It was just running across the field. I’m not sure where it’s living or if it’s in one of the local wooded areas.
“Obviously, seeing it was a shock but, at the same time, you’re half looking out for it because you want to see it for yourself.

“I don’t know enough about cats to know if it is officially a puma.
“It’s certainly not a domestic cat and it’s bigger than a fox.”
Sightings of the Beast of Exmoor were first recorded in the 1970s.
