Flight from Gatwick to Greek island cancelled after cockpit crew member arrested for ‘assaulting airport worker’
Staff said to have made announcement telling passengers there had been a bust-up between the pilot and ground staff
A PILOT was marched off a plane about to depart for Crete, Greece, after allegedly assaulting a member of airport staff.
Holidaymakers waiting to board the 9.20pm flight from London Gatwick to Heraklion were told it had been cancelled.
One woman, who asked not to be named, said staff even released a message over the tannoy telling passengers there had been a bust-up between the pilot and ground staff.
She said passengers watched through the glass in boarding gate 24 as police boarded the plane and then frog-marched the man off the Aegean Airlines flight A3425.
A spokeswoman from Sussex Police confirmed they were investigating the incident in the South Terminal.

She said: “I can confirm we are dealing with an incident at Gatwick Airport.
“A pilot has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting a member of airport staff.
“Police were called at 9.04pm and are investigating an allegation of assault on a male.”
