Jones cried on the air on CNN after Biden clinched the 2020 presidential election over incumbent .

After colleague Anderson Cooper asked Jones his take on Biden's win, Jones paused before getting started.

"Well, it's easier to be a parent this morning," a teary Jones responded.

"It's easier to be a dad, it's easier to tell your kids character matters. It matters.

"Telling the truth matters, being a good person matters, and it's easier for a whole lot of people."

Jones, who is divorced with two children, added: "If you're Muslim in this country, you don't have to worry if the president doesn't want you here.

"If you're an immigrant, you don't have to worry if the president's gonna be happy to have your baby snatched away or send dreamers back for no reason."

He continued, through tears: "It's a special occasion for a lot of people who have really suffered.

"The 'I Can't Breathe,' that wasn't just George Floyd that was a lot of people who felt they couldn't breathe.

"Every day you're waking up, you're getting these tweets and you're going to the store, and people who have afraid to show their racism have been nastier and nastier.

"And you spent so much of your life's energy just trying to hold it together, and it's been a big deal for us just trying to get some peace, and a have a chance for a reset.

"The character of the country matters, and being a good many matters."
