TRAGIC ARMY DEATH

Why are soldiers back out training in stifling 30C Brecon Beacons just a day after young recruit died of ‘heat exhaustion’?

Squaddies quick return to gruelling Welsh mountain training camp

SOLDIERS returned to gruelling training drills in the Brecon Beacons in 30C temperatures just one day after a young recruit died of 'heat exhaustion'.

Josh Hoole, 26, collapsed while on the Welsh mountains yesterday - three years after three SAS soldiers died of heat exhaustion on the same mountain camp.

These pictures show recruits were back on the same training course just 24 hours after the tragedy.

Army bosses have come under fire and been accused of negligence following soldier deaths while training in heatwaves.

Josh died just three years after a trio of SAS soldiers collapsed in intense heat in the Brecon Beacons.

A coroner last year slammed the MoD after ruling L/Cpl Edward Maher, L/Cpl Craig Roberts and Cpl James Dunsby died as a result of neglect on the 16-mile march.

Appalling failures with health and safety and basic medical were blamed for their deaths.

The MOD had vowed to publish new guidelines to protect soldiers training whilst carrying heavy loads in hot weather.

Josh of Ecclefechan, Lokerbie, served two tours of Afghanistan and was due to marry long-term girlfriend Rachael McKie later this year.

He was on a regular Army promotion course to become a platoon sergeant when he collapsed at 9am yesterday.

The cause of death has not officially been announced or attributed to the heatwave.

But Josh's granddad John Craig, 79, said: "The MOD have been keeping their cards close to their chest but we think its dehydration or something that has caused this."

As more images of training soldiers emerged the Ministry of Defence told the Sun Online that each exercise is individually risk assessed and it is not normal procedure to take time off after a death.

Temperatures in the mountainous Welsh region today once again topped 30C.
