Girl, 12, found dead at caravan site on first day of school summer holidays
A 12-year-old girl has tragically died at a caravan site in Lancashire on the first day of school summer holidays.
Police said the youngster was found "unresponsive" by paramedics at the Cala Gran Holiday Park, Fleetwood on Monday evening.
The schoolgirl was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital for treatment but died a short time later.
Eyewitnesses said a caravan at the park was taped off by police on Monday evening and officers remained at the scene throughout Tuesday.
Police said the death was currently being treated as "unexplained".
No arrests have been made and police said enquiries were continuing.
A post-mortem examination will take place in due course to try to establish the cause of death, said Lancashire Police.
The ambulance service was contacted at around 9.40pm on Monday.
A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: "The Ambulance Service contacted police after a 12-year-old girl was found unresponsive at the scene by paramedics.
"The girl was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital for treatment but sadly died a short time later.
"The death is currently being treated as unexplained and enquiries are continuing.
"A post mortem examination will take place in due course to try to establish the cause of death."
No arrests have been made.
A spokesman for Cala Gran Holiday Park said: "Emergency services were called to the park on Monday evening to tend to a 12-year-old female guest who later passed away.
"This is a tragic incident, and our heartfelt condolences go to the girl's family, who we have offered our support to."
