The shooting in Salford is the latest in a series of gun crimes thought to be linked to feuding local gangs

THIS is the harrowing moment a man wearing a boiler suit opened fire with a machine gun through a living room window.

Inside the home in Salford, Greater Manchester, a mother and two young children were sleeping.

CCTV showed the unidentified man approaching the home on Friday night before opening fire.

He then escaped in a Fiat 500 which was later found burnt out next to the M602 motorway, the reported.

It marks the latest shooting to occur in the city as gang warfare rages.

Last month Leevon Birchall, 23, once considered "untouchable", was stabbed 24 times by a group of balaclava-clad assailants.

The gangland violence is though to have started with the killing of Paul "Mr Big" Massey a year ago when he was gunned down outside his home.

Since then there has been a spate of gun crimes throughout the city, including the doorstep shooting of Christian Hickey, 7, and his mother Jayne.

Councillor John Warmisham told the paper: "The people who carry out this kind of attack don't consider the risk of innocent children getting caught in the crossfire.

"I am really concerned that as the situation escalates an innocent bystander will be killed."
