Britain boils in the bag, as UK burns through weather records
Red faces, tank tops and lawnmowers will be back in fashion as the mercury shoots up across the country
BRITS are set to boil as temperature skyrocket to potentially record levels this week
Red faces, tank tops and lawnmowers will be back in fashion as the mercury shoots up across the country with bookies slashing the odds of the UK experiencing the hottest weather ever recorded.
Paddy Power is offering odds of 11/4 that we’ll experience the hottest UK temperature on record this month.
That would mean scorching the current record of 38.5 °C, experienced in Kent in 2003.
The bookmaker makes it 5/2 that we’ll have three consecutive days that are hotter than 30°C in July, 9/2 that we’ll see a temperature of more than 40°C , and 20/1 that a nationwide hosepipe ban will be effected.
Spokesperson Paddy Power said: “Me and Mrs P have been having a heated debate over this one – whether my legs are too pasty for shorts or not.
"It sounds like we should make the most of this weather while it lasts, though – as rain is forecast for the weekend.”
The bookie is offering up a series of weather specials to punters this month including:
- 11/4 To have the highest temperature on record
- 5/2 To have three consecutive days hit over 30°C
- 40/1 Tesco to report record weekly ice cream sales
- 40/1 Boots to report record weekly sun cream sales
- 5/2 Met Office to report warmest July on record
- 9/2 To reach over 40°C on any day
- 20/1 A nationwide hose pipe ban to be effected
- 10/1 2016 to have the hottest UK temperature on record
