Cyclist Dave Sherry believes he was targeted because he was the 'only white bloke on the road' as he peddled home from work in London
A CYCLIST captured the shocking moment he was hit with a barrage of abuse in an apparent random racist attack in London.
The footage - taken by Dave Sherry as he cycled home from work in the early hours of Friday morning - shows him being branded a "f***ing white boy" by a group of three men in a car.
The cyclist said the car jumped a red light before the men began hurling abuse.
They allegedly spat in his direction and launched a sharp object - believed to be a nail - at him.
In the video the cyclist can be seen passing a silver VW while in the bike lane on Lea Bridge Road in Leyton, east London.
It shows the VW driver getting out of his car to hurl abuse at the cyclist, while his passengers shout from the open windows.
Mr Sherry, of Harlow, Essex, told the that the believes he was "provoked" and "picked on" because he was the "only white bloke on the road".
He said: "I went past them and the next thing I know they’re giving it the old abuse so I thought I’d pull over and let them go because I just didn’t need it.
“Next thing I know they’re waiting for me at the lights, calling me batty boy and white boy and spitting at me.
“They threw something sharp at me, I think it was a nail, then all the threats and abusiveness started.”
In the footage three young men can be heard calling the cyclist a "f***ing white boy" and shouting "your mum" at him.
He added: “I actually believe I was picked on that morning, they chose to slow down and provoke me because I was the only white bloke on the road, I did nothing to provoke them.
“You can’t be going round people based on their colour and calling them “batty boys”, that’s not on, throwing things and spitting at people.
“They chose to do that, they stopped and ambushed me at a green light.
“I don’t know what’s blown them up but that’s the first time I’ve had road rage at three o’clock in the morning, there’s nothing else on the road.
“I’m sure their parents wouldn’t be impressed with that, I was only my way into work trying to make an honest living.”
Met Police confirmed they are investigating the incident but no arrests have been made.
A spokesman said: "Police are investigating an allegation of common assault that was reported on July 15.
"The incident occurred at 3.15am in Lea Bridge Road.
"Officers from Waltham Forest investigate."
