DONALD Trump’s wife Melania is facing accusations a speech she made last night endorsing her husband for president is a copy of one Michelle Obama made in 2008.

Speaking at the Republican National Convention, Melania’s speech praised her husband as a “compassionate” man who would “fight for the country”.

Both things are notable qualities for a man who wants to be the next President of the USA.

The problem is Mrs Obama said the same things in her speech eight years ago.

In a section she said: "My parents impressed on me the values that you work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say and keep your promise; that you treat people with respect."

The Trump camp says the speechwriters took inspiration from Melania's life when putting the speech together

Commentators noticed the “your word is your bond” line appeared in Mrs Obama’s speech, when she said: "And Barack and I were raised with so many of the same values: that you work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say you're going to do; that you treat people with dignity and respect, even if you don't know them, and even if you don't agree with them."

Back in 2008, Mrs Obama said: "And Barack Obama and I set out to build lives guided by these values, and pass them on to the next generations.

"Because we want our children, and all children in this nation, to know that the only limit to the height of your achievement is the reach of your dreams and your willingness to work for them."

And yesterday the line Mrs Trump said about “the strength of your dreams” was very similar.

She said: "[My parents] taught me to show the values and morals in my daily life.

“That is the lesson that I continue to pass along to our son.

“And we need to pass those lessons on to the many generations to follow, because we want our children in this nation to know that the only limit to your achievements is the strength of your dreams and your willingness to work for them."

Mrs Trump had the help of a speechwriting team to put the words together.

The Donald Trump campaign has denied allegations Melania Trump plagiarised Michelle Obama’s speech.

Trump’s campaign chairman Paul Manafort told ’s Chris Cuomo on the New Day show: “To think that she would do something like that knowing how scrutinised her speech was going to be last night is just really absurd.”

In a statement her husband’s communications adviser Jason Miller said: "In writing her beautiful speech, Melania's team of writers took notes on her life's inspirations, and in some instances included fragments that reflected her own thinking.

"Melania's immigrant experience and love for America shone through in her speech, which made it such a success."

Twitter users have been mocking the Slovenian-born former model about her speech with many using the hashtag #FamousMelaniaTrumpQuotes listing other famous things she could have said.
