Britain will bask in hot temperatures as scorching Mediterranean air moves over the country.

July's odds have been cut into 13/8 as being the warmest ever as the weather looks like it will be good.

Betting is now closed that the hottest day of the year will be notched up before the month's out, but should the heatwave continue to soar it's a 4/1 shot the daily high temperature record of 36.7C is smashed.

Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: "The odds are melting as quick as the ice creams during the heatwave.

"Bosses all over the UK should brace themselves for deluge of sickies next week as it looks like the sizzling weather is here to stay and will see July and summer 2016 soar into the record books."

The Met Office tweeted: "A taste of summer to come early next week with temperature across most of the UK well above average. 32C likely!"

Today started out cloudy in some areas but sunshine will break through the clouds to bring in a warm and humid day, which some are predicting will be the hottest day of the year so far.

Parts of Western Scotland will see some rain but the rest of the country will remain muggy.

Monday will again be humid and rain-free throughout most of the UK with sunshine and warm temperatures.

Some areas in northwest England will see some rain, which will keep the air feeling less muggy.

From Tuesday temperature will really start to rise and overtake Hawaii in the summer stakes.

The Met Office predicts that in some parts of the country it will go above 30C.
