Dad drives 170 miles to help daughter stranded on Snowdonia – and ends up needing to be rescued himself
A DEVOTED dad drove 170 miles to rescue his daughter stranded on Snowdonia - and ended up needing to be rescued himself.
The man travelled through the night in blizzard conditions to save the 22-year-old who was wild camping on the Welsh mountain on Easter Sunday.
Her tent had blown away and her torch battery had gone flat so she phoned her parents for help.
As the snow, rain and wind worsened she sheltered in her sleeping bag and waited for aid to arrive.
Her father drove from Cardiff to Cwm Lloer in the middle of the night but was hit by extreme conditions on the hills.
Temperatures had plunged to -2C and heavy wintry showers battered the landscape.
He was unable to find his daughter and, after facing gale force winds and snow, he released he needed emergency help himself.
At 5.30am he called his wife in a panic and asked her to contact mountain rescue.

The team ventured out and spotted the dad on the hillside and rushed to his aid.
At about the same time his daughter had managed to find her way to the roadside.
The pair were reunited safe and well by Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue team.
A spokesperson said: "A 22-year-old female had been camping around Northern Snowdonia and on her final night the weather had turned very wet and windy and her tent had blown away.
"After her attempts to walk down in the dark were thwarted by a flat torch battery, she called her family, explained the situation and said she would shelter out of the wind, rain and snow in her sleeping bag.
"Concerned, her father drove overnight from Cardiff to Snowdonia and started up towards Cwm Lloer in the early hours looking for his daughter in worsening conditions.
"At 5.30am, unable to find his daughter and facing gale force winds and wintry showers, he became unwell and called his wife asking her to call Mountain Rescue for help.

"The team deployed a small party towards Cwm LLoer and on the way up they spotted dad walking back down off the hill.
"At about the same time his daughter had arrived back at the roadside and managed to call her mother who alerted the team.
"Both casualties were reunited at Oggie Base and all team members stood down just before 9am."
