Matt Gaetz ‘faces imminent ARREST’ as jailed pal Joel Greenberg ‘is singing to the feds’ amid sex-trafficking probe
REP Matt Gaetz is allegedly facing imminent arrest as his jailed pal Joel Greenberg is "singing to the feds" amid their sex trafficking probe.
News that the Justice Department was investigating Gaetz over an alleged sexual relationship he had with a 17-year-old broke earlier this week.
A source that Greenberg, who after being hit with a string of charges in 2020, including sex trafficking a minor, is likely giving up dirt on the Florida Republican to investigators.
As for , 38, he's denied all of the allegations, instead insisting that the whole underage sex story is part of a plot to extort his family to the tune of $25million.
However, the source that spoke the the Daily Mail said that claim was just an attempt to divert attention away from the investigation.
The Thursday report from The Times alleged that Greenberg would use "sugar baby" websites to meet women and that Gaetz and Greenberg were involved in encounters where they would instruct women to meet them at hotels and specify how much that would pay.
The encounters allegedly took place in 2019 and 2020.
People familiar with the meetings said that some people involved, including Gaetz, would take the drug ecstasy before having sex, the Times reported.
Gaetz's office issued another statement on Thursday calling the new allegations "disgusting" and again maintaining the congressman's innocence.
"Matt Gaetz has never paid for sex," the statement said. "Matt Gaetz refutes all the disgusting allegations completely."
"Matt Geatz has never ever been on any such websites whatsoever. Matt Gaetz cherishes the relationships in his past and looks forward to marrying the love of his life."
Gaetz is currently engaged to Ginger Luckey, a 26-year-old Harvard Business School student.
Earlier in the week, Gaetz claimed that the story was part of an extortion plot by former Air Force intelligence officer Robert Kent, who was trying to get the Gaetz family to fund a rescue mission for Robert Levinson, an American hostage in Iran.
The Gaetz family has claimed that Kent contacted the rep's father, Don Gaetz, and suggested if they were to help fund the rescue mission, it could lead to a pardon for Matt for an undisclosed crime.

However, Kent told the Times that he was not trying to extort the family, but had simply heard a rumor that the younger Gaetz may be under investigation.
"I told him I’m not trying to extort, but if this were true, he might be interested in doing something good," he said.
