April Fools’ text pranks: Five hilarious jokes to play on your friends
APRIL Fools’ Day —celebrated on April 1 each year — is an annual tradition which includes playing hoaxes or practical jokes on friends, family members or strangers.
We’ve come up with a few April Fool’s text pranks to target your friends and family with. Choose your victim wisely!
The ‘It’s a little bit funny’
This prank is best suited to your partner or spouse; preferably one that you’ve been with for long enough to commit to the use of the L word.
For this prank, choose a gushy love song for the basis of your text exchange.
A good example is Elton John’s ‘Your Song’; a timeless classic with which you could either serenade your love with, or confuse the heck out of them.
The prank works best if you can work the lyrics of the song into an existing conversation.
Once you’ve messaged through the first line of the song, just keep texting through the lyrics.
They will become increasingly confused as the messages make less and less sense in relation to their responses, and if they know the song, they will surely cotton on.
If not, let them off the hook and say “April Fools!”.
You: It’s a little bit funny
Them: What’s funny?
You: This feeling inside
Them: What feeling?
You: I'm not one of those who can easily hide
Them: What are you talking about? Are you okay?
You: I don't have much money, but boy, if I did. I'd buy a big house where we both could live
The ‘Who is this?!’
For this prank, you’ll need to wait for someone to text you.
Upon receiving a message from someone you consider to be a good candidate for the joke, respond as though you don’t know them.
For example, you may receive a text from someone asking you to go for a walk (really, what else would you be messaging about these days?)
You can play along with whatever subject matter comes up, acting as though you don’t know them.
Before they get too frustrated, text them saying “April Fools!”
The Facebook Post
, you will need to block your number. Text your friend something strange like “I’ve just seen your Facebook post and I am extremely interested in the llamas you have for sale, what price would you sell for?”
The ‘thanks for signing up for Cat Facts!’
Bordering on the obscure, this is a fun one to get any unsuspecting friend with.
First up, you’ll need to block your number - or alternatively, target a friend who doesn’t have your number on hand.
Your first text could read something along the lines of “Thanks for signing up for Cat Facts! You now will receive fun daily facts about CATS! >o<”
Depending on the nature of your friend, they might not respond. Whether or not this is the case, you should start to pepper them with cat facts, like “Cats use their tails for balance and have nearly 30 individual bones in them!”
Next up, give them an option to cancel, or continue their ‘membership’ with another text, reading “Would you like to receive a Cat Fact every hour? <reply CANCEL to cancel your membership>
Whatever they respond, send them another message saying “Command not recognised”.
Make sure you get at least a couple of Cat Facts in there, before informing them that it is in fact an April Fool’s joke.
The ‘You had one job!’
Everyone’s had that sinking feeling after making an unintentional mistake at work and botching things up royally. Text a co-worker you’re chummy with for this April Fools’ text prank. Keep them on the edge of their seat guessing, building upon the “mistake” without actually telling them what you did.
You: I’m so fired.
Them: Oh no! What happened?
You: I had one job. ONE job and totally blew it.
Them: lol ONE job! Wait? For real? What did you do?
You: A little voice inside me kept telling me it wasn’t right, but I did it anyway and now I’m toast.
You: What am I going to do? Should I tell the boss?
Them: Tell me what you did first!
