Donald Trump ally calls for all US Muslims to be tested for Sharia law sympathies
Newt Gingrich said their internet usage and activity at mosques should be monitored
A KEY Donald Trump ally has called for all US Muslims to be tested for Sharia law sympathies.
Hours after the horrific Bastille Day terror attack in Nice, Newt Gingrich said anyone with a Muslim background who believes in the strict laws should be deported.
The laws include amputating thieves' hands, the public lashing of adulterers and allowing men to marry up to four women - though moderate Muslims will instead associate them with prayer, fasting, and charity.
The former Republican Speaker of the House, who has endorsed Trump and is being considered as his running mate in the election, told Fox News: “Western civilisation is in a war.
“We should frankly test every person here who is of a Muslim background and if they believe in Sharia they should be deported."
He added: "Modern Muslims who have given up Sharia, glad to have them as citizens. Perfectly happy to have them next door.
"But we need to be fairly relentless about defining who our enemies are."

Asked how he would carry out the testing, Gingrich said US Muslims' internet use should be monitored, as should activities at mosques throughout the country.
He said: “I mean, if you're not prepared to monitor the mosques, this whole thing is a joke. Where do you think the primary source of recruitment [to ISIS] is?"
Gingrich was one of three candidates shortlisted to become Trump’s running mate and was set to become Vice President and Trump's right-hand man should the real estate tycoon win the election. He lost out to Indiana governor Mike Pence.
It comes after billionaire Trump claimed he would declare war on ISIS if he is elected president.
"We're dealing with people without uniforms ... we are allowing people into our country — we have no idea where they are coming from," he said. "They have no paperwork, no documentation."
Trump added: "This may be the great Trojan Horse of all time."
