British woman says Bastille Day massacre ‘spoiled her SHOPPING trip’

Tourist Lucy Nesbitt-Comaskey told Sky News that the mass killing in France had ruined her day out

A British tourist has been slammed on social media for saying the Bastille Day massacre 'spoiled' her shopping trip.

Lucy Nesbitt-Comaskey was speaking to Sky News about the horrific lorry attack which killed at least 84 people and left dozens injured.

The Brit, who missed the attack because she was visiting the toilet, told the broadcaster that the mass killing had ruined her day out in French city of Nice.

She said: “Maybe this is awful and maybe a bit selfish but it did spoil our shopping trip.

“We bought all this lovely shopping and now I can’t be bothered with it. It doesn’t mean anything now.”

Following the overwhelmingly negative reaction to her comments online, Nesbitt-Comaskey issued an apology on Facebook stating she was still “in shock” when she spoke on live television.

Her post read: “My sincere condolences to the French people who have lost their loved one's today in Nice.

“I'm deeply sorry if my interview with Sky News sounded uncompassionate.

“I was totally distressed and shocked. My words came out wrong. Once again sorry.”

The Brit holidaymaker said she was planning on watching the Bastille Day fireworks on the promenade but had to visit the toilet when the terror attack happened.

She said: “I said to my friend ‘This doesn’t sound like fireworks, it sounds like Beirut when it’s under fire’.

Furious social media users posted their disgust at British woman’s comments.

One posted: “So the terrorist attack in #Nice ruined Lucy Nesbitt-Comaskey shopping trip to Nice. Got an idea that no one gives a toss about you.”

Another said: “50 people dead but the real tragedy here is Lucy Nesbitt-Comaskey's shopping trip was ruined. My sympathies love.”

One user sarcastically wrote: Pray for Lucy Nesbitt-Comaskey. Poor woman had her shopping trip ruined by some French people getting killed #prayforlucy.”
