Who were Winston Churchill’s children?

SIR Winston Churchill is known in history as an inspirational character after leading Britain to victory in WWII.

As well as being Conservative Prime Minister for two terms (1940-45 & 1951-55), Churchill had a large family to take care of too.

Churchill had five children with his wife of 57 years, Clementine.

From eldest to youngest:

Diana Churchill

Diana was born in 1909 and died of suicide in 1963 aged 54.

She served in the Women’s Royal Naval Service during WWII and helped in many of Churchill’s election campaigns.

She was married twice and had three children with her second husband, Duncan Sandys before they divorced as well.

Diana suffered a mental breakdown in 1953 which later resulted in her death.

Randolph Churchill

Randolph was born in 1911 and died in 1968 aged 57, of a heart attack.

He was Churchill’s only son.

Randolph was given an MBE and worked as a journalist, writer, solider and later went onto become a Conservative politician.

He also had two children.

Sarah Churchill

Sarah was born in 1914 and died aged 67 in 1982.

She was known for being an actress and a dancer, as well as being Churchill’s daughter.

She married three times but did not have children.

Like her older sister, Sarah suffered from mental illness which had links to her death.

Marigold Churchill

Marigold was born in 1918 and died of septicaemia a few weeks before her third birthday, in 1921.

Mary (Churchill) Soames

Mary was the youngest of Churchill’s children but lived the longest.

She was born in 1922 and died aged 91, in 2014.

She married Conservative politician Christopher Soames and they had five children together.

Mary was an author.

She also worked for the Red Cross, the Women’s Voluntary Service and the Auxiliary Territorial Service during WWII.
