19-month-old boy dies after falling into a garden pond while visiting grandparents

A 19-month-old toddler has tragically died after falling into a garden pond.

The little boy, from Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, was visiting his grandparents' house in Gosberton Risegate, near Spalding, Lincolnshire, when he tumbled into the water on Sunday.

He was then taken to the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, but died on Wednesday.

It is understood he had initially been taken to Pilgrim Hospital in Boston before being transferred.

A coroner's officer in South Lincolnshire said an inquest into his death is expected to be opened and adjourned on Monday.
