Wadi al-Salam cemetery, located in the city of Najaf, contains the bodies of five million people giving it a bigger population than most cities.

The video shows what looks like a never-ending sea of tombs in a colossal and ever-growing area of 1485.5 acres.

According to the BBC, 50,000 people are buried at the site every year.

And while the majority of the dead are Shia Muslims, the current war with ISIS means the number of burials is rising.

The name Wadi al-Salam translated means ‘Valley of Peace’.

The morbid yet breath-taking footage was taken by Iraqi student and drone cameraman Ali Hashim Moon.

Aside from the war with ISIS, Iraq was previously invaded by the United States of America in 1991 and in 2003.

In the second conflict, it is estimated that hundreds of thousands of Iraqis were killed.
