And householders can pocket even more if they throw in a daily cup of tea
LONDONERS are raking in thousands of pounds a year just by renting out the driveways outside their homes.
A new website reveals exactly how much people can get for their parking spaces and finds people who are willing to pay up.
The - devised by spacehopper - estimates the value of unused spaces all over London, with the average drive potentially bringing in £800 a year.
It estimates there are up to 15.7 million parking spaces nationally with potential untapped earnings of £1.6 billion.
Not surprisingly, the capital has the highest rates, with Westminster homeowners being able to rent out their driveways for up to £250 a week (£12,000 a year).
That figure would rent a three-bed semi in central Manchester, a brand new two-bed apartment in Birmingham, a penthouse in Newcastle and a five -bed detached house in Newport, Wales.
In Chelsea, potential weekly rates are £230, although the figure is a more modest £8 in parts of outer London.
Owners are making £20 a day if they live close to a train station or popular venue and even more if they throw in a daily cup of tea!.
Once people have found out how much their space is worth, the website can connect them to drivers looking for a place to park.
Spacehopper director Alex Walker said: “It is a real win for commuters.
“Many work days get off to a stressful start for commuters as they worry that the station car park will be full by the time they get there.
“We are launching with more than 5,000 spaces across the country and expect that number to grow quickly, making it easier for commuters everywhere.
“Drivers can book their spaces in advance and have one less thing to worry about.”
