Health risk warning as Sainsbury’s and Tesco scramble to recall tins of pasta after revealing they may contain chunks of RUBBER

The high street supermarkets asked customers to return the cans of ravioli and macaroni made by Noliko N.V in Belgium

SAINSBURY’S and Tesco have rushed to recall tins of pasta after revealing they could contain chunks of rubber.

The two high street supermarkets have warned customers not to eat the tins of ravioli and macaroni over fears they pose a “risk to health”.

The products – made by Noliko N.V in Belgium – were removed from shelves as a “precautionary measure”.

The supermarkets have also displayed point-of-sale recall notices, asking customers who had recently bought the affected tins to return them to store.

Tesco’s recall notice – relating to 400g tins of beef ravioli – said: “We have been made aware that a small number of Tesco Ravioli cans may potentially contain pieces of rubber.

“We are recalling affected batch codes as a precautionary measure."

The notice added: "Please do not consume this product.

“Please return the affected products to store where a full refund will be given. No receipt is required.

“Tesco apologises to our customers for any inconvenience caused.”

Sainsbury’s said: “It has been brought to our attention that a small number of the above products may contain pieces of rubber.

“As a precautionary measure, we are asking all customers who have bought these products not to consume them, and to return it to their nearest Sainsbury’s store where they will receive a full refund.

“No other products or date codes are affected by this issue, and we apologise for the inconvenience this has caused.”

It has not been revealed how the rubber got into the cans, but the Food Standards Agency said the tins posed a “possible risk to health” as a result.
