The shop's staff took care of the lady until PC Dave Cant arrived and allowed her to take the shopping and flowers home for free, as she had forgotten her purse.

A heart-warming picture shows the elderly lady clinging onto PC Cant's hand on top of the gear stick on the drive back to her house.

Once home, the officer helped her settle, put her shopping away and placed the flowers on her windowsill.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: "Sainsbury's staff were amazing and let the lady take the shopping and the flowers home for free as she had not taken her purse with her. A really lovely gesture from them.

"PC Dave took the lady home. She was very scared and held PC Dave's hand all the way.

"Once the lady was home, PC Dave got her settled, put her flowers on display in the window, and put her shopping away. All in a day's work!"
