What channel is GB News on?

The channel is available on Freeview as channel 236 and Freesat on 216.

The GB News Sky channel is 515.

It is also Virgin Media channel 626.

When did GB News launch?

GB News went live on Sunday June 13, 2021 at 8pm - with a few technical difficulties.

The highly-anticipated network promised to provide a mix of "news, opinion and debate in the UK" and it kicked off with a programme titled Welcome To GB News.

Sunday night's offering featured appearances from Nigel Farage and Sir Alan Sugar, but both were cut off by faulty connections.

Chief executive officer Angelos Frangopoulos said: “GB News is a digital start-up designed to bring greater plurality of voices to UK media so we’re passionate about delivering our programmes on every platform we can, including live DAB digital radio.”

He added: “It’s a considerable challenge to expand into radio so quickly but this opportunity is too great to miss. It means we can serve more people by giving them the choice to tune in to us anywhere, any time.

“It was a highly competitive selection process so we’re really delighted.

“We look forward to partnering again with Arqiva, who already take care of our terrestrial and satellite television signals as well as our fibre connectivity.”

GB News will air on Freeview channel 236 and will be broadcast across Sky, Virgin Media, YouView and Freesat, alongside a dedicated on-demand streaming service.

What is GB news?

GB news is a British news channel.

The channel plans to air 6,500 hours of television a year once it finds its feet.

GB news is chaired by journalism veteran Andrew Neil.

Neil has compared the new channel to American news broadcasters.

He said: “It will be based more like MSNBC in America, which is on the left, and Fox [News], which is on the right.

“They don’t do rolling news. They do news when it breaks, but they don’t do continuous rolling news."

He added: “They segment the day into individual programmes, news-based programmes, built around very strong presenters, or anchors as they call them in the United States, and that is what we will do too.

“[It will have] Anchors with a bit of edge, a bit of attitude, bit of personality – and people will make an appointment to view them. That’s the plan.”

The channel's Director of News and Programmes John McAndrew has said that GB News will be “free, fair, impartial” and “Ofcom regulated”.

But it has been widely reported that the channel will be right-wing.

Colin Brazier, the former Sky News presenter, told the he joined GB News because "the mainstream broadcasters were getting out of touch with a large portion of the viewership".

"I think people will be surprised to find that it is not as shrill as they are expecting," he added. "It is going to be more thoughtful and positive, and it will not be po-faced.

"Sometimes watching the existing news offerings can feel like being in the audience for an extended sociology lecture - and I don't think this will."
