Bizarre moment a high-pitched train announcer comes over the tannoy
Passengers were startled to hear the unusual announcement as they travelled
A TRAIN guard made a bizarre announcement that apparently only chipmunks could understand, as what came from the tannoy was a high-pitched and unintelligible voice.
The unexpected announcement sounded similar to Alvin, a cartoon chipmunk, as the squeaky voice fills the carriage in this footage.
It is thought perhaps the guard left the tannoy on by mistake or was playing a prank on passengers.
The video capturing the strange sound on the Liverpool train was taken by Phil Kelly.
The 23-year-old bar tender told the Liverpool Echo he was so bemused by the sound he immediately recorded it on his phone.
He said: "I live in Aigburth, and was going back to town on the last train. I heard a male guard speaking - it sounded like he was on helium. It was really weird.
"My first thought was that the train must have been taken over by a demon . There’s a good chance the guard was bored and just wanted to do something briefly. Or there’s a chance it was a technical fault.
"You don’t hear that every day. If I was in a bad way, I don’t know how I would have taken it."
A Merseyrail spokeswoman told the paper: "Announcements made on the train are carried out to communicate key passenger information, and ultimately, to make the network simple to use.
“Unfortunately, on that occasion, the PA system was not used in the correct way, for which we apologise."
