Meghan Markle ‘wore earrings gifted by Saudi Crown Prince to formal dinner after he ordered killing of journalist’
MEGHAN Markle wore earrings gifted by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to a formal dinner in Fiji just three weeks after the death of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, a report claims.
It is claimed Meghan told royal staff the earrings she wore in Fiji had been borrowed rather than stating they were a wedding gift from the prince, The Times newspaper reports.
Khashoggi was killed after he entered the Saudi consulate in Turkey on October 2, 2018.
The CIA said in a report released by President Joe Biden last Friday that the prince approved that Khashoggi be “captured or killed".
Meghan wore the chandelier earrings to a state dinner in Fiji while the prince was being condemned over the murder of Khashoggi.
According to the Duchess of Sussex reportedly donned the earrings just three weeks after Khashoggi's death.
Jason Knauf, the couple’s then communications assistant, reportedly submitted the complaint in October 2018 to protect palace staff who were allegedly coming under pressure from the Duchess.
Sources said that the Palace was a tense atmosphere - with staff occasionally reduced to tears.
One royal aide, anticipating a row with Meghan, is alleged to have told a colleague: “I can’t stop shaking.”
A spokesman for the Sussexes said: "The duchess is saddened by this latest attack on her character, particularly as someone who has been the target of bullying herself and is deeply committed to supporting those who have experienced pain and trauma.
"She is determined to continue her work building compassion around the world and will keep striving to set an example for doing what is right and doing what is good."
They added: “We have addressed these defamatory claims in full, including spurious allegations regarding the use of gifts loaned to The Duchess by The Crown.";
It comes just days before Meghan and Harry are due to sit down for their ‘tell-all’ interview with Oprah Winfrey.
