Fears for ex-England footie ace grow as he is spotted being helped into an ambulance in bare feet with a cut head

PAUL Gascoigne was taken to hospital yesterday after police and paramedics were called to his home three days running.

His latest meltdown will raise fears for the alcoholic ex-England footie ace.

Gazza, 49, in bare feet and with a cut head, had to be helped into an ambulance outside his flat.

Former Tottenham Hotspur teammate Gary Mabbutt, who last spoke to his pal on Wednesday morning, said: “It’s a shock to me.

“I’ve been calling him, I’ve left messages and he hasn’t got back to me so I assume something had happened.

“I was in touch with him three or four days in a row and he was absolutely fine.

“The last time I spoke to him, we were talking normally, he sounded absolutely fantastic and things were looking very good.”

The drama began on Wednesday afternoon when paramedics and police first arrived at Gazza’s flat near Poole, Dorset.

He was checked over before deciding he wanted to go in for treatment.

But he changed his mind after being driven off by cops and asked to be taken back home.

The former Spurs and Lazio midfielder was so hammered he dropped a wad of cash as he got out of the van and an officer, left, had to pick it up for him.

Cops and an ambulance were called to his flat again on Thursday afternoon.

Two officers spent three hours inside and medics were also called in before leaving.

Then yesterday a police van, cop car and an ambulance were called over further concerns for Gazza’s welfare.

His latest drink woe comes after we reported on Tuesday that he had been spotted out fishing with a mystery blonde.

Gary Mabbutt said: “I spoke to him on Wednesday morning and he was absolutely fine.

“He told me he’d been fishing and keeping himself busy.

“As far as I was concerned things were chugging along nicely.”

A police spokesman said: “At 1.48pm yesterday Dorset Police was called to a concern for welfare.

“Officers and the ambulance services attended and a man in his 40s was taken to Poole Hospital.”

In March we published a picture of Gazza’s battered and bruised face following a drunken fall.

He later told ITV’s Good Morning Britain he had been sober for nearly a year before a gin bender.

And he said the photo made him realise how low he had sunk.

But during another booze relapse in May, a moronic fan bought Gazza gin after Tesco staff refused to serve him.

He then had to call a locksmith as he was so drunk he could not get into his flat.

Gazza is due to stand trial in September accused of cracking a racist joke during his stage show.
