The terrorist was caught off guard when his convoy was hit by Iraqi Army Aviation in the Anbar desert.

Ducking for cover to avoid being shot down by the helicopter, the militant lies face-down in the greenery.

He puts grass on his head as he waits for the helicopter to fly over.

Believing the coast is clear, the fighter peaks out from his hiding place - staring directly at the camera - before planting his face in the ground once again.

When he is confident the helicopter has gone, the fighter gets up and walks away with his gun.

But in a bizarre attempt to avoid being spotted on his walk - he dangles a large clump of grass above his head.

The bizarre amused those inside the helicopter that was secretly following him as they caught the sorry affair on camera.

The Anbar region has been a site of conflict between Iraqi forces and Islamic State loyalists for some time.
Fleeing Islamic State fighters have been forced to travel across the desert from the city of Fallujah, one of Iraq's largest cities.
The Iraqi army said it has been bombing convoys of fleeing jihadis - destroying dozens of vehicles.

It is not known whether the ISIS fighter's disguise proved to be successful.
