Two teenagers die in separate incidents at T in the Park Festival as cops admit deaths could be drug-related

Police Scotland are investigating the unexplained deaths of two revellers from northern England at the event in Perthshire

TWO teenagers have been confirmed to have died in separate incidents at T in the Park festival.

Cops confirmed the pair - a man and a woman, both aged 17 - were from somewhere in the north of England.

Police Scotland are probing the tragic deaths at the party at Strathallan Castle in Perthshire.

The deaths are not thought to be linked and are not believed to be suspicious.

Cops said both are being treated as unexplained, but refused to rule out the possibility the tragic incidents were drug-related.

Chief Superintendent Angela McLaren said: "Our thoughts and condolences are with the families of the two young people involved.

"We are continuing to investigate these deaths and are following lines of enquiry, including the possibility that they may be drug related.

"I would remind all persons attending the festival that there is no safe way of taking drugs.

"Anyone who has any concerns for themselves or others at the festival should contact festival staff, police officers or medics for assistance."

Festival director Geoff Ellis said: "We are shocked and saddened by today's news and our thoughts are with the families and friends at this time.

"We are offering our full support and assistance."

There have been deaths at the festival, which has recently moved to Perthshire, in previous years.

A 36-year-old man was found dead in the toilets in 2015 and a 24-year-old man collapsed and died during the night in 2010.

Festivalgoers began arriving for the three-day event on Thursday.

Headline acts include The Stones Roses taking to the Main Stage on Friday, with Calvin Harris and Red Hot Chilli Peppers also on the line-up.

The event moved to Strathallan Castle last year and was hit with complaints about crowd safety, traffic congestion and anti-social behaviour.

It was forced to move from previous home Balado after 18 years because of health and safety concerns over an oil pipe system running under the site.

Organisers said improvements included colour-coded zones, better signage and 24-hour dedicated management teams.

T in the Park's official Twitter account today issued a warning to revellers about drugs at the festival.

It said: "Don't risk it - You don't know what's in drugs, where they came from, or how you'll react to them - steer clear!

"Be vigilant - Drugs are illegal & dangerous. If you see anything suspicious report it to stewards or a police officer.
